Ludhiana is a city and a municipal corporation in Ludhiana district in the state of Punjab, and is the largest city north of New Delhi. Ludhiana city was founded in the time of Lodhi dynasty which ruled in Delhi from 1451-1526 A.D. Ludhiana City’s best icon Clock Tower, popularly known as Ghanta Ghar was inaugurated on 18th October 1906 as Victoria Memorial Clock Tower by the then Lt Governor of Punjab Charles Montgomery alongwith Deewan Tek Chand the then Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana. The rulers of the day had chosen the spot for the tower keeping in mind the proximity of the business centre and the railway station. The tower had been erected as a memorial to the silver jubilee year of Queen Victoria’s regime. Its name was changed to Bhagwan Mahavir Clock Tower during the Chief Ministership of Giani Zail Singh.
